IF THE "BOOT" FITS...

Like last year boots are everywhere again. I love boots. They make me feel empowered, stompy and woman-in-charge.

An afternoon to myself, I decided it was time to break out from my boring boots and invest in a pair of those fabulous over the knee boots. If my students aren't scared of me already a pair of these should really put the R back into RESPECT! What has "Puss in Boots" got that I haven't?

For those of you who know me, please don't worry about me turning up in a mini skirt and thigh boots at your next dinner party. I was simply looking for soft black leather long boots to team with jeans...I have NO delusions!

I did the rounds of favourite shoe shops and finally found the pair of my dreams....GORGEOUS slimline black soft kid leather just over the knee with a cuff. I try them on. Oos and ahs from myself and extremely convincing sales woman. Utter joy! On the verge of a retail orgasm! They're for me!
I sit down to take them off...and can't. For the next 20 minutes the sales woman, who by now has really lost her charm, and I try all positions trying to pull the things off. I have never been so embarrassed in my life. She also makes really encouraging comments such as"..and these are the wider model too.." I also got  " Well they are made for french women.."

After much tugging, pulling and heaving we get them off and I scuttle out of the shop with legs at least 3 inches longer ( in my dreams!!) and no boots.

Well now I know what I have that " Puss in Boots" doesn't....calf muscles. I will obviously have to stop going to the gym if I want my french power boots!!

Tonight....calf-muscle-reinforcing Aubergine Lasagne for dinner followed by Chestnut Panna Cotta.
Maybe I should go to Italy for boots?
See recipes.

ps As I was walking home from town ( another calf enhancing exercise!!) I remembered a conversation I had with my great friend Maryjane in NZ a couple of winters ago. She told me how the shoe shops in Auckland, NZ, were full of french winter boots on sale because the sporty kiwi girls with the exercised strapping calf muscles could not get them on...
