My French Husband (herein FH) eating his breakfast mumbles T'as fini (have you finished!) as he watches me downloading photos of the All Blacks.

Oh dear, how many times times can one watch those old Jockey underwear ads with him doing sit-ups JUST in his undies...ah bliss!
Getting serious, the World Cup has been monumental. And not just because this desperateanglohousewife's fantasies!
As an offshore Kiwi, my heart has been in my throat everytime I hear the NZ anthem sung or watch " my boys" sling out the haka to their adversaries. The pride a Kiwi feels can only be undersdood by other Kiwis. A small country so isolated, national sports such as Rugby are paramount to our national dignity. Winning this World Cup is something we have been waiting for since 1987. Winning "at home" has made that win all the more poignant.
The French played like kings which is what made the final that much more exciting. They played like a team, leaving their "star" culture in the locker room. In my living room, surrounded by French friends, the tension was high. I could hardly breathe during the whole of the second half. And yes, I DID cry when we won. FH did the "gallic sulk" for the rest of the day as I continued smiling like a chesire cat, dancing around the house bounced up by our brunch Bloody Marys.
The NZ flag remains hung down the front of our house. So far no eggs and the windows appear to be fully brick-proof!! Joking...
The Saddest Thing
Driving to work Monday morning, basking in the All Black's glory, I was horrifed to hear reports on the main French radio stations refering to the final as a "set up" with a paid off ref. A final loss taken bitterly.
My only take on this is to kindly ask the French to remember that this is "sport" and not "war". They were NOT the losers. They were second in the World Cup - a title deserving of a better attitude from the French press. After a less than glorious win against the valiant Welsh in the semi-finals, the French press should know better!!
Enough from me..time to go back and watch those underwear ads.
